Follow these steps for a flawless self tanner application:
Get a Salon Spray Tan

Although salon tans are more expensive they often look more natural than self tanners purchased at a store. Many salons offer airbrushing which is when an aesthetician mists the self tanner over your body. Salons also offer spray tanning which is cheaper but does not look as natural. To do a spray tan you step into a large booth and jets mist your entire body.

Prepare Your Skin

First, you must prepare your skin for the self tanner by cleansing and exfoliating your face and body. Pay special attention when exfoliating to rough areas such as the knees and elbows because dry skin will absorb a higher concentration of the tanner. Also, remember to shave before applying self tanner.

Protect Your Nails

Apply Vaseline to cuticles and nails before applying self tanner so they do not stain. Do not put on moisturizer before applying the self tanner.

Application

Apply tanner to your legs first and remember to rub the tanner on to the tops of your feet and toes. Next, do your thighs using the excess to cover your knee. Repeat on other leg. Finally, apply to hips, stomach, and torso, following with your shoulders and arms.

How To Self Tan Your Face

Self Tanning your face: Pull your hair up before doing your face. Apply under-eye cream which will lighten the skin under your eyes making you look refreshed and awake. Mix the self tanner with equal parts of moisturizer before applying to your face and neck so that it blends more naturally with your skin tone. Don’t forget: Smooth remaining tanner over earlobes and upper ears. Wash hands thoroughly.

Afterwards

Once you are finished applying the lotion immediately wash your hands multiple times in hot, soapy water. Using a scrub brush on your nails and in between your fingers helps to remove any self tanner that could be hiding.

Drying Process

Wait ten minutes for the lotion to dry before putting on clothes. Let the color develop for four hours before bathing or sweating to minimize streaking. Avoid any activities that will make you sweat for the first three hours.

Moisturizing

You need to protect your tan once it is applied by keeping your skin moisturized to prevent flaking. Apply lotion to your body twice a day or use baby oil before getting out of the shower.
