Not long ago, a number of companies began producing special hair care products that were aimed at men. Many of these products are also known as proactive products because they are beneficial to the underlying health of the hair. These companies realized that men’s hair have different requirements from women’s hair and need different products to maintain their healthy look. These products have been specially formulated keeping in mind that the scalp of men is different from that of women.
The range of products for men began in the 1920’s with the introduction of “Brylcreem”, a wax bases product that helped to keep the hair in place so that the hairstyles of those days could be maintained. This started the revolution of men’s hair products. Later, in the 1950’s, an oil like liquid gained popularity which was usually referred to as a hair tonic. The name implied that it was some kind of medicinal product that would protect and nourish the hair. The cream and tonic formed much of the hair care regimen of men for many years.
Soon, however, a range of shampoos, conditioners, dyes and treatments followed the introduction of specially formulated dandruff shampoos for men. Pomades, lotions, gels, emulsions and sprays became quite popular with men who desired to look well groomed and neat. Today, men can choose from a wide variety of products to suit their hair styles and hair types.
As for women, men’s hair care products are available according to the hair type and the condition. As dyeing, chemical treatments and straightening are becoming as common among men as among women; the damage to their hair is also largely similar. Heat induced damage breaks cuticles and casts long lasting damage on the hair making them look lifeless and dull. Keeping all these things in mind, it is necessary that men be as careful as their hair and the products they use as they are about their work and other matters.
